What is Sell to Tell?

Our Purpose:

To encourage other believing Sales Professionals to share their faith with their clients and prospects.

To have a resource where we can direct people to where the Gospel is clearly explained.

In 1935, God saved Henry Voss when he trusted in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Just prior to the start of World War II, in 1939, he began Voss Electric in Lincoln, Nebraska, to go share “THE Gospel,” as found in I Corinthians 15:1-4.

“Now I make known to you, brethren, the Gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day …” 

After WWII, when Henry and other Christian’s returned home, they settled across America to work as Missionaries To The Marketplace. With that evangelistic example in mind, Henry entered the post-war business world to once again sell lighting, so that he could Give God glory and Get the Gospel to the Marketplace, for the greatest generation’s Christian’s knew that the Bible and Briefcase go together. Henry told folks, “God owns my business; Jesus is my senior partner; I believe the Book!”

In 1960, by His grace, God saved me and I trusted in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord. Henry turned Voss Electric over to me in 1980, saying, “Use it to get out the Gospel and fund missionaries.” He taught me persecution comes if we share “the Gospel” in the business world. But we must not remain silent to avoid persecution, as “ambassadors for Christ we must go TELL people Jesus is the “the light of the world, and the only way to Heaven” (John 8:12, 14:6). 

In 1990, our mission motto changed from “Missionaries To The Marketplace, to We Sell To Tell.” And since that time, Voss Lighting has supported various pastors, missionaries, and Bible translators. As the Psalmist writes, “Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples” (Psalm 96:3). 

The world says, “Keep the Bible out of the public arena; the purpose of a business is to make money.” We do sell a lot of lighting products, but Voss Lighting’s primary purpose is to glorify God by using our business to go tell the Gospel. It is my hope that other Christian business owners and Christian’s working in the “marketplace” will make the most of every opportunity given to them to share the Good News – the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Paul asked in Ephesians 6:20 for prayer that he would “speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”  (See Col. 4:3; Acts 4:29, 31).

Christian’s, let’s tell the business world “Jesus Saves!” If you are not Christian, please believe in Him now! When you repentantly believe, God gives forgiveness, a transformed, purposeful life in Christ, and a home in Heaven forever. Acts 16:31: Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.
